There’s a woman at my church, LS, who loves to throw elaborately themed parties. Last night, her home was transformed into “the Hip Kitty,” a beatnik cafe. In the invitation, we had been instructed to write a beat poem and wear our cool threads. We sat 4 to a table and sipped faux martinis and munched hors d’oeuvres. This is what I wrote for the poetry reading:<\/p>\n

\nof his last bale of wool to cushion the prickle
\nof southern pride and northern cold
\nbefore were old
\nthe shortest life is one that took
\nawhile to save
\nand knights and knaves can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t solve the crime of misinterpretation
\nsweeping the nation
\nunder the rug.
\nWe feel unknown but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s more obvious to seem methodious
\nand melodic like the tunes you know by sight without a name or a label
\nto force unstable
\nand while I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m able I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll hawk your wares.<\/p>\n
\nas we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re able the west was won by the cat\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s curiousity.
\nThere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no you in curiosity
\nand curios are even farther from the truth.
\nIn my youth I thought it uncouth when muddy dippers
\nwould double dare and howl to scare.
\nPlease believe I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m all that I seem and more besides
\nand I hate to see you cry.<\/p>\n
\nshow some style of colors dialed.
\nDrill in to the interaction of distraction come to roost
\nand must distrust what youth forsooth,
\nI swear the spare was all that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s there
\non the left side of the dashboard mirror.<\/p>\n
