early snow

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

We had hardly any snow in Tahoe while we were there - there was a very small amount on the ground when we arrived on Wednesday and then on Wed nite it snowed an inch or so overnight. Driving home on Sunday, we drove through snowstorms for 2 different segments of our journey but didn’t have to put chains on, thankfully, and we made it home it record time.

Then, there was a bit of snow on Monday, while I was running back and forth between the apartment and the laundry building. Go figure. That night it snowed for real and we woke up to a snowy landscape. Very nice, I took a long walk around the neighborhood. We have had snow the last 2 winters as well, but this is by far the earliest. Spencer Butte looks really pretty all sugared up with snow…

Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

How was your Thanksgiving holiday? We enjoyed ours, spending the long weekend with family in Tahoe. There wasn’t much snow this year, but we kept ourselves very well entertained all the same.

Indoor Games

We played lots of games: video games, card games, board games, table games, field games…

More Games

And an Alderbranch family specialty: diverting rivers!

Outdoor Games

Philosophical discussions (some more heated than others…), a beautiful day spent hanging out near the Lake,

By the Lake

And plenty of shenanigans!

Rainy Weather

You know, even though we’re stuck inside during a solid week of rain, we’ve been sustained by a bunch of new music. Have you heard of Pandora? Not the irresistable box of Greek myth fame, but a free Internet radio service. It’s pretty cool. The way it works is you tell it a musical artist or even just a song that you like, and it sets up a custom “radio station” for you with similar sounds. You can rate each song, like or dislike, and it’ll take that info to keep “tuning” the station. And you can have a ton of different stations, up to 100. (It beats the real radio by far, because there are no commercials, just ads on the web site, and they play much more than the same 20 songs!) It’s totally made my week, and if you’re bored over there with your same old tunes, check it out!
